Heart Series: Image II

Bowerbirds are amazing creatures.

The male will build a nest-like structure and decorate it with sticks and other objects to lure a female for mating. The structure they make is only for mating and not where the young are raised. In some ways it is amazingly similar to the courtship of humans. The male bowerbird will find different objects such as shells, leaves, stones, berries, etc to decorate their mating structures. They will match these objects by color and style, creating a visually appealing design. It is thought that the bowerbird uses items that they know will be preferential to the female they are trying to entice.

I am also fascinated by the human heart, it's many successes and it's many failures. I chose to use the image of the bowerbird's mating nest to show how one will try to lure in another heart. Decorating the nest with rose petals, conversation hearts, and strawberries as a human might do in the course of dating.

Dolls for my Nephew

Two dolls made for my little nephew Jacob!
Made a pattern for this top one so that I could make it again. You should have seen the first one I tried without any plan at all. It basically looked like a box with two straw arms. Needless to say, I got better.

Rebel Race

Did the Rebel Race this weekend. There were other people that were supposed to go as well, but they all ended up backing out. So, I did it by myself. It was pretty fun, but tough. I got really muddy. There were a few things I didn't do. The net walls scared me.

Logan's Art

Logan's Scribbles
Pencils Drawing
Finished Product

I got this idea from Dave Devries "The Monster Engine" series. My friend's son, Logan, got ahold of a permanent marker and proceeded to create some artwork in secret on his bedroom wall. A mother's truest blessing and joy...

She took a picture of her son's art and sent it to me so that I could create something a little more colorful. This is what I've created. The "fortune cookie guy" says 'Don't hurt the goose that lays the golden egg.'

Dig In Indy 2011

Went to the festival and met up with Wendy and Shane for a while. Ended up working the booth a little bit and drinking a lot of wine of course. Afterwards, Melissa, Danny, Fred, Kristin, and I all went to McNivens. A lettuce fight ensued.
